Ministry Leadership Seminar

Creativity and the Church
Thomas Terry | Founder of Humble Beast Records, Pastor, Trinity Church of Portland
April 27, 2021

Course Description

One of the first things that we learn about God in Genesis 1 & 2 is that He is a creative God. However, often and unfortunately church ministry does not reflect the fact that we have a creative God. Creativity in ministry goes beyond creativity in worship, and bleeds into evangelism and discipleship as well. How can the church reclaim creativity as an expression of one of God’s attributes? Join us for a one-day seminar about Creativity and the Church with Thomas Terry.

Thomas Terry is the founder and proprietor of Humble Beast, a record label and ministry in Portland, Oregon. As a spoken word artist and a member of Beautiful Eulogy, he seeks to bring creativity and theology together to glorify the Lord who created them both. Thomas is also a contributor for The Gospel Coalition. Thomas lives with his wife, Heather, and their two boys, Tobin and Kuyper, and serves as an elder at Trinity Church Portland. You can follow him on Twitter and find his words and music at www.humblebeast.com.

Thomas has also co-authored a book, Images and Idols: Creativity for the Christian Life, with Ryan Lister, PhD, professor of theology at Western Seminary in Portland, OR.

In their work, Terry and Lister exhort believers to value creativity:

“Christians ought to be leading the way in creativity, but we rarely do. God is the Creator of all things, and He created us in His image. Creativity is woven into the very fabric of our humanity. Therefore, Christians should value and champion creativity as a vital part of our image-bearing role.”
